Atlantic Ocean Cruise Highlights

An Atlantic Ocean cruise, also known as a Trans-Atlantic cruise, is a very unique cruising experience. Atlantic cruises easily allow passengers to experience fun attractions and lovely ports on both sides of the ocean. These cruises are increasing in popularity and offer a bit of nostalgia. At one time, traveling across the Atlantic by ship was immensely popular and these cruises are an important reminder of those times. Atlantic ocean cruises are typically a relaxing experience.

Most Atlantic Ocean cruises last 7 to 10 nights. New York, a departure of arrival point for many of these cruises, offers visitors numerous museums and cultural sights. Bermuda still has a very British influence and is often visited on these cruises. Other popular ports on the European and African side of the ocean include Southampton, England's main cruise port; the Canary Islands with their beautiful beaches; Morocco with its extensive marketplaces; and Spain, with its numerous historic cathedrals. Overall, the top destinations are Southampton, New York, and Bermuda.

Southampton

Besides being England's main cruise port, Southampton is also a good destination for people interested in cultural attractions. These include art galleries and several interesting museums. The Bargate Monument Gallery is housed in a building 800 years old and has been refurbished. It's dedicated to modern art. For art spanning all time periods, especially Renaissance and Impressionist pieces, you'll want to see the City Art Gallery. They are reputed to have one of the best collections outside of London. The Maritime Museum is housed in a 14th century warehouse building. The Museum of Archaeology has exhibits dating back to Roman times. The Hall of Aviation is dedicated to flight history. Two historic homes have been restored and are open to the public, Tudor House Museum and Garden and Medieval Merchant's House.

New York City

New York has two cruise ports, with one in Manhattan and one in Brooklyn. Central Park is one of the world's largest city parks and a good place to explore no matter what time of year it is. It encompasses well over 500 acres altogether. There are numerous walking and biking trails, as well as places to ride horses. There are playgrounds for the kids, too. Fifth Avenue has some of the best shopping in the United States. Some of the stores to choose from include FAO Schwarz, Bergdorf Goodman, Tiffany & Co, and Saks Fifth Avenue. No trip to New York City is complete without seeing some of the museums. Some of the landmark museums include the American Museum of Natural History, the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, Children's Museum of Manhattan, Ellis Island Museum, the Guggenheim, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Bermuda

Bermuda is a nice taste of authentic British culture in the New World. One of the best parts of shopping in Bermuda is that U.S. Dollars are freely accepted. You'll find plenty of places to shop in Hamilton, Bermuda's main port city. Most stores and restaurants are within easy walking distance of the cruise terminal. British and Irish imports can be purchased at several of the stores. Victoria Park, a nice place for visitors to enjoy the weather, was constructed in honor of the Queen's jubilee. Nice botanical gardens are found in Paget Parish. Horseshoe Bay  is a favorite snorkeling spot.
