USA Today is reporting that a propeller shaft problem on the Epic will cause the ship to be 7.5 hours late when it sails from Rotterdam to Southampton. The ship will now arrive at 5:30pm instead of 10am. NCL says the problem will be fixed at Southampton and will not affect the next sailing.
The distance between the two ports is 229 nautical miles, or 263 land miles. For those wondering, under the original time the ship would average 12 knots. With the added time the speed will average 9 knots. I suspect one screw will be offline.
Update: The UK newspaper Daily Echo is reporting it is a major engine failure and refunds have been offered to those booked on the sailing from Rotterdam to Southampton.
