The Captain's Welcome Aboard cocktail party usually is one hour or less in length. The dress code is whatever the dress code is for that night. They usually do the party on the first formal night, although that has changed recently with Carnival since they have relaxed the dress suggestions. Just as Dave wrote it is a very nice elegant party. The captain will introduce the crew and than will make a remark about how nice the ladies look tonight. I took exception and yelled out that they look nice every night. The lady in front of me turned around and said "Thank you" so did my wife. I had a nice night.
