Well I have never stayed in the area. We have cruised here twice. If I remember correctly the places near the port are not too nice. The nicer places were futher from the center of town. Once when we were in port there was a ship taking on passengers. There were alot of shuttles there, so it looked like the hotel would get you to the port.
We are not real picky as to where we stay, a nice bed and good price is fine with me. I did not see any that I would feel safe in. I did walk the beach area at night. I felt safe, there are arm poice everywhere.
