You didn't say what cruiseline/ship you'll be on. With Carnival, there will be at least one formal/captain's dinner. Two formals if you are on a longer cruise. Some men wear tuxedos, many men wear business suits. No shorts or t-shirts and tanks are permitted in the dining room for dinner. However, you can wear shorts and t-shirts (never tanktops on men) in the dining rooms for lunch and dinner. Anything goes on the Lido Deck buffets, especially around the pool, however, you may want to coverup to go through the buffet inside the Lido Deck. You can get by wearing the same thing for breakfast and dinner. You'll probably have on swimsuits or shorts during the day. For the ports, wear comfortable shoes, and in most cases, wear your swimsuit under your clothing when there is nowhere to change. Excursions will inform you of that. Cousins idea of checking the weather forecast is valuable. I doubt this time of year that there will be any cool nights. Your comfort is most important. Wear what makes you feel relaxed. Most people take too many clothes the first time. The second time, you'll take half as much.
