Stopped at Livorno on a cruise in May, and I would highly suggest you hire a cab for the day. We were able to see both Florence and Pisa. Florence is most definitely the most beautiful city in Italy and not to be missed, but you can do both. Check out Tom Ogg's mega-review on the Silver Whisper (
