On the cruises that I have been on, they had a very strict no-adult policy in the teen and kids areas. Unfortunately, they consider 18 an adult, but I am sure that if you went and explained it to them, then they might make an exception. Or maybe, if they don't ask, and if your son looks reasonably young, then just don't tell them.
