We had a tour of Scotia Prince when it first came to Tampa and ran a trial season of Tampa to Progresso and Cancun runs. I have deliberately not called it cruises because after looking around the ship make no mistake it is a FERRY. Quite a nice ferry, but by no stretch of the imagination is it a cruise ship. The cabins were very small and bare and many had no en-suite facilities. The fares gave you the option of buying your food with the passenger fare all inclusive, or paying as you go but the "restaurant" and the food did not compare to any cruise ship I have ever been on.
If you want to take your auto to Mexico it would be a convenient and acceptable short cut from Florida rather than the long drive around the Gulf of Mexico, but the prices were comparable to last minute bargains on RCCL, Carnival, HAL and Celebrity out of Tampa so my wife made me promise to never take her on Scotia Prince. I am glad we took their invitation of a tour of the ship otherwide I would have been in big trouble with her!
So as long as you know what you are getting, fine, but please don't compare it to a modern (or even many older) cruise ships.
