Freighter cruises and other niche cruises such as River Cruises and Expeditions cost more because 1) You have less people onboard to distribute the operating cost (often 134 or less). 2) They often have more inclusions 3) They aren't making up low cruise fares with onboard revenue made from casinos, bingo, photos, etc. Often, alcohol drinks are the only thing they are making any revenue from.
