Can't help you regarding a beach, but we just toured the island and the interior is still a mess from the hurricane and the best hiking spots are closed. Other than the rum factory (one of my favorite spots) I'd continue to search for a beach near the port and avoid travelling on the island as much as possible. The locals were all looking for handouts...it was very disturbing.
