Some states have very high liquor taxes. So yes, it can be a big savings to some. Although it seems prices have been getting higher on liquor in the ports and on ships. I used to bring back Kahlua from Mexico when it was $8 a bottle, and back home it would be $20. Plus the Mexico bottle would be the full liter, where the $20 bottle was 750ml. The airlines liquid rules have stopped a lot of people from bringing back liquor like they did in the old days. Those that can drive to ports can bring back liquor easier.
