I don't know of the reason, either. It does seem possible that they've had issues with cash in the past, especially as some of the pay restaurants can be pricey. Yet, you do not have to eat there -- the main dining room has been perfectly fine for us. I agree with the others that a credit card is the best route. A CF stated, they won't charge it until the end of the cruise. (Although they may put a hold on it for tips, but you've prepaid those.)
