Norwegian Getaway will sail seven-day Eastern Caribbean roundtrip Miami starting in March 2014
In 2010, Norwegian Cruise Line announced two brand new innovative ships to be delivered in 2013 and 2014. Norwegian Breakaway was christened as "New York's ship" in May, 2013 - and the cruise industry abuzz about the arrival of "the best Norwegian Cruise Line ship yet." But don't think the excitement ends there. When Norwegian Breakaway's Miami-based sister-ship, Norwegian Getaway, arrives in February 2014, she will be just as phenomenal. Let's take a look.
In designing Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway, the company took the best elements from their fleet and combined them with the most magnificent amenities at sea, plus a host of exciting new innovations. They knocked down walls and windows to design an industry-first open-air promenade to connect you with the ocean, called The Waterfront. On board, you can indulge in 29 dining experiences, including three new dedicated seafood restaurants created by celebrity chef Geoffrey Zakarian. Thrill seekers can experience the thrill of sliding down one of five towering waterslides in the ship's Aqua Park. Bring your game to the Sports Complex and enjoy three levels of action-packed activities. Plus, be dazzled by a spectacular fireworks display on every cruise. Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway have everything you're looking for in a vacation - and then some, not to mention Norwegian was the first to define - and now redefine -Freestyle Cruising®.
Home Port and Itinerary
While Norwegian Breakaway is famously dubbed "New York's Ship," Norwegian Getaway will be the largest cruise ship yet to home-port in Miami, sailing year-round to the Eastern Caribbean to ports of call including St. Thomas, St. Maarten and Nassau, Bahamas, starting February 2014.
This seven-day tropical voyage gives you plenty of time to enjoy strolling or dining along The Waterfront, the most extensive outdoor Promenade at sea. One can enjoy the fresh Caribbean Sea air with a gelato or a fine cognac any time of the day or night. Imagine enjoying the traditional spit-fired barbecue Brazilian cuisine of Moderno Churrascaria with a bottle of fine Chilean wine at a moonlit al fresco table for two.
Miami - the Magic City
Similar to Norwegian Breakaway's "New York's Ship" designation, Norwegian Getaway will pay homage to its homeport city of Miami, also known as "the Magic City," for the way the city "grew magically" just a few years after its township incorporation.
The art adorning the hull of Norwegian Getaway is designed by renowned Miami artist David "Lebo" Le Batard, famous for his Cuban-inspired art, located throughout Miami. Lebo is also responsible for a Gloria Estefan album cover and for decorating a host of products from Gibson Guitars to Harley Davidson and Ferrari. His original artwork that adorns Norwegian Getaway's hull depicts a "mythical mermaid, an iconic image that represents humanity's connection to the sea."
Magical Entertainment - Unique to Norwegian Getaway
Unique entertainment featured aboard Norwegian Getaway includes The Illusionarium
, where guests will experience "supernatural special effects and astonishing illusions as created by world-class magicians," while enjoying an intimate dinner.
The Broadway dance sensation, "Burn the Floor" will also perform on board offering a chance to witness "supercharged ballroom dancers" performing Latin-spiced dances like Salsa, Mambo, Tango, Rumba and Paso Doble, as well as their unique take on traditional dances like the Waltz, Cha Cha, Foxtrot, Swing, Jive and Lindy Hop. Burn the Floor will perform in the ship's main dining room and in Getaway Theater.
The main stage show in Getaway Theater is a Broadway production of "Legally Blonde, the Musical," a 7-time Tony Award-nominated musical.
Also unique to Norwegian Getaway is "The Grammy Experience,"a space that features a museum of artifacts chosen and curated by the GRAMMY Museum at L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles. In the evening, this all-new venue will feature live performances by past GRAMMY winners and nominees.
Also unique to Norwegian Getaway, is stand-up comedy in Headliner's Club provided by Levity Entertainment Group of Los Angeles, the company that represents some of the world's most renowned comedians including Bill Cosby, Jeff Dunham, Amy Schumer, Dan Tosh and more. The room will also host the audience-interactive dueling piano show Howl at the Moon.
