Technically the hurricane season is June 1-November 30th. I wouldn't dwell on August being during hurricane season. A ship can change itineraries and get out of the way of a hurricane. You are actually safer on the ship than in a hotel on land. Be sure to take out travel insurance which covers travel delay and travel interruptions.
