We went down a day early to San Juan and stayed at the Embassy Suites near the airport. The hotel had a beautiful swimming area with waterfall in a walled off area. I'd recommend them.
I don't know about the self-serve laundry or ice we never used them. The cabin steward always filled our ice bucket each morning and evening.
Condition of the ship was very, very good, not phenomenal or new. A lot of burnt out light bulbs, noticeable wear and tear in the cabins but nothing to prevent a very enjoyable cruise.
