Our kids bought us our first cruise

1.We are going from Dade City, Fl the week before and will return there, if we drive what is the best deal on parking etc.
Can we park elsewhere and taxi back?
2.is it better to book onshore activites directly with local operators, I hear that it less expensise and less crowded.
