I have been searching for fairly priced, good lodging near Denali National Park. I want to be able to walk in the downtown and not be isolated in case I want to eat somewhere other than the dining room at the only hotel. Any help friends?

The "town" of Denali, where tourist stay is very small and everything is in walking distance. Other than...the park but there are many activities that provide buses and shuttles.

Well be prepared. We ate a Subway and a sandwich cost us $8.00. Take a lot of money with you. Most of the hotels were right there, we stayed at the Denali Princess Hotel.

Loved the hotel, it had beds that were log, with a mattress of course. It was a beautiful hotel and right across the street from shopping. There was a deck toward the back where you could sit and overlook the Nenana River. Gorgeous view.

We are scheduled to stay at the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge in late July. Will also take in "Alaska Cabin Nite" Theater while in Denali.

In Denali we stayed at the McKinley Creekside cabins....with a gorgeous view of the mountains! Wonderful breakfast in their cafe.
When we left Denali (2 1/2 hr ) drive to Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge. VERY NICE, VERY FRIENDLY people running it. The newest thing on "Main Street" there. We walked to the Talkeetna Roadhouse restaraunt. "Community Table Sitting" Great breakfast pasteries etc, large portions. We walked to the end of the Main Street and took pictures along the riverbed and railroad track/bridge. The river is also near the D & S Horseback riding. Talkeetna is where we took our flight to Mt McKinly (www.fly2.com) We ate at the beautiful Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge over looking the mountain. m. 12.5 Talkeetna Spur Road

Stayed at the Grizley Bear Lodge just outside of Denali Park (5 miles?) since we had heard that "Glitter Gulch" @ Denali was too "touresty". Good decision, as the "Griz" was a great place right on the river and each room had a nice balcony overlooking the river. Great place to sip wine in PM and coffee in AM. Wish we had stayed a few more days at that place!

PS they also have great camping and RVing at this place.
