Hi
A verying interesting site!
We are going on our 1st family vacation with HAL alaska cruise in June. We could not get a cruise from vancouver return, so opted for seatle return. I am just wondering if we would be allowed to leave the cruise in Victoria knowing we would loose the last night of the cruise. We want to spend some more time in BC, and this would facilitate our plans. Just wondering if that is allowed???
Thanks for any help you can provide.

The short answer is "No it is not allowed". The reasons get complicated but it has to do with immigration and customs laws. Cruises are considered "closed loop" travel meaning they originate and return their passengers to the same country. They do not allow people to leave the cruise mid trip.

I would advise you to check with your cruise line. We are doing an Alaskan cruise in July with Princess and they have told us that we can disembark early in Victoria instead of continuing on to Seattle.

They require a written request. We are Canadian citizens, if that makes a difference. From what I've read elsewhere, it's not an uncommon occurrence. It wouldn't hurt to ask!

I know folks too who asked and got permission to leave their cruise in Canada instead of Seattle. They are Canadian citizens, so I don't know if that makes a difference when it comes to immigration laws, etc.

We were on a Panama cruise last year and a friend of our left the ship in Mexico with no problem. He just had to inform them of the situation.

Sorry, forgot, once we got to Victoria, almost a quarter of the ship left and did not continue onto Vanacouver.

Hi Everyone
I did contact my travel agent, and they have requested the early departure for us. They said that it would take 10 days to get approval, but it should not be a problem. We are Canadian citizens, but they said we would just need to be sure to have passports for ID (which I think are mandetory anyway). So, thanks for your advice...it all worked out in the end.

I think being a canadian citizen makes a difference!
