The Alaskan authorities have gone after jewelry stores in cruise ports which target passengers with fake "sales". Read the story here.

It doesn't sound like consumers who got suckered in by the signs are going to get any restitution.

I guess if you live around there and you see the same sign week after week you know there is no sale, but for someone who comes just once, they don't know the difference. You'd just have to go by what you're comfortable paying and if the "sale" price is still too high, don't buy it.

Things must be pretty slow for the Attorney General up in Alaska.

Here in California the "perpetual sale" is just another way of doing business--everybody is aware of it and nobody seems to care. I have a rattan furniture store a few blocks from me that has had a "going out of business sale" for 40 years.
