WE have gotten mixed messages about the whole passport situation this year. We know that a new law has been enacted mandating the need for passports for places like Canada and Bahamas But then we heard that for US citizens, going to AK or MX, those passports won't be mandatory till December 2006. We are crusing to AK in July and will be porting in Canada at least once, our travel agent wasn't even certain if we will need our passports or not. Anybody out there with more current information?

I went and got my passport a few weeks ago. The passport office told me they were not manditory till the end of the year.

The good part if you get one, they are good for 10 years. It does take a month or so to get one.
