Don't pay Klondike Express (the 26 glacier outfit) cash. I made that mistake. I had barely handed the cash over when I asked about the cancellation policy and was informed that I had to cancel 24 hours in advance for a trip that departed within just a few hours and that I had just then booked. Fair enough. I made my bed and was prepared to lie in it. What I was not prepared for was the fact that I asked very specifically if the boat was going to College Fjord and I was assured that it would. We weren't far out of port when the captain decided to change the itinerary and entirely eliminate College Fjord from our trip. Instead of seeing 26 Glaciers, we saw only a fraction of that many. When I asked for a refund, I was treated disrespectfully by both the on-boat supervisor and the Anchorage office. The ethics of the Klondike Express leave much to be desired.
Anybody planning a glacier cruise out of Whittier simply go to Whittier and book a trip. There is a lot of competition these days and tourism is down. You can probably get a better price and a better cruise by just showing up.
Welcome to Cruise-Chat.
I would be curious about more information on this story. Did the Captain give a reason why he made the decision to change the itinerary? Was it perhaps weather related and therefore he made a safety call?
