My Mother-in-law and Father-in-law are taking a 7-day cruise to Alaska aboard HAL's Veendam this Sunday, May 11. What are some fun things they can do that are either free or fairly inexpensive at the ports (Juneau, Skagway, Glacier Bay, Ketchikan). thx!!

Skagway is very easy to stroll--the National Park Service exhibits and walking tours are great; we also liked the City Hall Museum and Corringtom Museum. In Ketchikan, you can walk to the SE Alaska Discovery Center and Creek Street. In Juneau, the State of Alaska Museum is excellent and we liked the State Capitol and Juneau-Douglas City Museum. All these things are free or very inexpensive.
And if Tom is wondering why there was no mention of what to do in Glacier Bay, that's because it isn't a port. You don't get off the ship there, but be prepared to spend the entire day out on deck watching scenery, glaciers and hopefully some whales as well!
Alaska is a great place to cruise!
