My husband and I are on the NCL Star to Alaska in July and were wondering if anyone could give us some ideas on things to do. I have done some research online but I was so overwhelmed by that search that I decided to just come here and ask.

My husband and I like to eat good food have drink good beer/drinks. Neither of us like to shop. We mostly like to sit at a place and kind of people watch!

Any ideas?

If you are overwhelmed by the choices of things to do, imagine how we feel when asked to give you ideas on what you should don amongst all those choices!

Based on your input of good food, good drink and people watching, the one place that comes to my mind is The Red Dog Saloon, in Juneau. Its a great place to sit, listen to good music and people watch.

But you are going to Alaska. Go see some sites that you can't see anywhere else... go see the glaciers, go whale watching, visit the dog sled camps...go fishing for Salmon. The possibilities are endless, you can sit and people watch at home in your local shopping mall...

Give us some more ideas as to what you might like and we can provide better guidance.

I totally agree with Jim. There are so many natural wonders in Alaska that you will miss by simply people watching. It is easy to incorporate good food into a sightseeing tour. At the end of the tours there is almost always time to find a place in town to sit, relax, and have a drink.

If you check on the excursions your ship offers, many of them will include grilled or smoked salmon dinners, dungeness (sp) crab dinners, etc. By doing one of those, you can view some spectacular sights and also dine on great local foods.

In Juneau we took a floatplane to the Taku Glacier Lodge. It was fantastic. The food they served at the Lodge was delicious and the owners were super friendly. It is pricey, but worth every cent.

In Skagway we took the White Pass Railway to the summit and then a bus back. The bus stopped in Liarsville where we had another delicious meal.

I hope you decide to enjoy the uniqueness of the area. You won't regret it!

My recommendations:
Ketchikan: Floatplane over Misty Fjords with Misty Fjords Air

Juneau: The tram up the mountain and take a cab to the Mendenhall Glacier.

Skagway: Rock climbing with Klondike Rock Climbing

Sitka: Marine Wildlife Tour with Gallant Adventures

Victoria: Butchart Gardens

Juneau: Mendenhall glacier or whale watching or do both....

Skagway: White pass railroad...round trip or take the bus back....A MUST TO DO.

Ketchikan: Cultural tour of the totems, or salmon fishing...

Not much to do in Sitka: Take the cultural tour and the folk dancers...

Victoria: The Gardens if the weather is nice..Not much time there..

Just be totally amazed with Alaska...
