Hi, I am planning a cruisetour for July and would like any thoughts on which is a better approach. The land tour first or the cruise first? Also, we will be flying from the New England area if anyone has any good airfare tips.Thank you, Colleen

Hi Collenlt123,
Welcome aboard !!
For us it would depend where we were flying into. When we fly to Europe to crusie, I do like to take it after. We get on board as soon as we can and sleep a few hours so we are ok the rest of the evening plus for us getting off the ship starts the depression :0( but this way you have a few more days in an exciting place.

Many people believe doing the land first is better. You have three or four busy days on land and then you can relax for seven days on the ship. However; that can be busy too, depending on the number of port stops and which activities you do. One big difference is once your on the ship you won't have to unpack for seven days. With the land your packing/unpacking. Ending your cruise in Vancouver may cut off a little flying time home.

There is a traveling show called "Alaska Onstage". It is a team of Alaska experts that travel around the US talking about Alaska. Even the experts say it really doesn't matter which direction you start with, because an Alaska Cruise/tour is a busy schedule either way.

I would pick the ship, date, itinerary, that works best for your vacation schedule and not worry so much about the direction.

I would prefer to do the land portion first, for all the reasons Cruise Fanatic stated. Land tours can be hectic and tiring; once you are on the ship, you can take a deep breath and relax. For me, the cruise is the icing on the cake.
