Packing for Alaska

We are taking our first cruise abroad the Radiance of the Seas to Alaska in August.

I have seen the comprehensive packing list for the tropics but how about other suggestions of things to bring because of the cooler climate and excursions? Obviously, the weather is unpredictable but any add-ons to the list would be helpful! Thanks.

LAYERS.....
Layer your daily outdoor clothing. T-shirt, sweater, jacket. I did ok with a fleece jacket, and not my winter parka. Based on your tours you may need to bring heavier clothing.
Bring rain gear, a poncho, umbrellas for sure.
When I was there last in early June and had alot of rain, cool, but, not freezing.
This year I am going late July, should be better, as with your dates.

I heartily agree on the layers. We also invested in rain pants, and are glad we did - they not only helped our legs stay dry, but were like windbreakers for the legs as well; very handy when staying out on deck to watch scenery & wildlife! And don't forget bug repellent and plenty of film/memory sticks/camera batteries!

What an excellent idea about the rain pants!
I may have to try that this time.
