Another Alaska excursion question: I am interested in doing a helicopter landing on the glacier - is it worth it to spend the extra money and do the dog-sledding? Any opinions?
Shelley
I did the Glacier Walkabout tour. For me that was enough. It really was awesome & spectacular.
I have never done the dogsled. Have heard some people say they did not enjoy it as much???
Shelley,
I have heard that it is not worth the extra money - but having never done it, can't comment personally. I am planning to do the Glacier Walkabout in June and undecided about the dog sleds. When I was in Alaska last summer it was too warm and the dog-sledding runs were cancelled. Actually never got to do the Glacier walkabout either; since the weather was so bad all the helicopters were grounded. One of the main reasons I am returning to Alaska this summer.
Let me know what you decide. From checking out other cruise boards, that seems to be the general impression - but it still sounds fun and I may opt for it anyway.

I have had folks in groups that have done it. The general opinion was that it wasn't worth the extra money because you don't really go anywhere on the dog sled. It is basically just for the experience of doing it and that's about it. I think I would give it a shot, though just for the experience.
