Can anyone tell me if there are totem poles that you can see without going on an excursion that takes you right to them? We are going on our first cruise and keep trying to decide if we need to pre-book alot of excursions or whether we can see many things we want to see on our own. My DH is really interested in seeing the totem poles up close. We are cruising with Princess at the end of June. Thx.
First of all welcome to Cruise Chat. There is the Totem Heritage Center. He is a short walk from the pier. See the Map here.
There is also the Saxman Native Village Tour, which is too far to walk, so you would need to pay for the tour.
First two images were from the Heritage Center, sorry I do not have a better photo.
The last images is from the Saxman Village
Saxman Village was very interesting..Lots of recreated Totems and a native Lodge....The wooded area around there is very nice to walk thru also....the tour ended up at the musuem where you could see some of the original totems and watch a carver creating a new one....Happy cruising in Alaska....Heading back there for my 4th trip soon...
Thanks for the replies and the info!
