Hi everyone. Two Questions for those experts out there on Alaska. One, can anyone recommend a decent hotel near peir 91..perhaps one that has a shuttle? and two, what can anyone recommend for trans. from SEA TAC airport to the hotel and ship. I am reading that the taxi cost is very high and that there are buses??? I am traveling with a total of four.
thanks again in advance for any advise. Karen

Hi Karen.

As far as transportation from Sea-Tac, I'm not sure how much luggage you will have, but there is a light rail link between the airport and Downtown Seattle. It's with Sound Transit. The maximum fare is $2.50 per person. Once you hit Seattle, the light rail goes through the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel, so then you have the hassle of going back up to street level, and getting a taxi to your hotel. The Downtown Seattle tunnel is underground, running underneath Third Ave.

In a taxi, the ride from Sea-Tac Airport to Downtown Seattle is about 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. This is why taxi fares are high.

As far as hotels, the Quality Inn Seattle Center they say is less than one mile away from Pier 91. However, it does not look like the offer a shuttle.

Hi Karen. No problem. As of February, Metro Transit discontinued the bus route from Sea-Tac to Downtown Seattle.

Because of that, I believe light rail is now one of the many public transportation ways (aside from taxis, shuttles, etc.) from the airport to Downtown Seattle.

Here is a link to some information about the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel.

Also, if you decide to stay at the Quality Inn, your best bet is to get off the light rail at the Westlake Station. From there, you have a couple options.

The first is to take the elevator at Westlake Station to the top floor. This will put you on the top floor of the Westlake Center Shopping Mall, where you can grab the Seattle Center Monorail over to the Seattle Center area, which is where the hotel is located. On their website, they say the hotel is walking distance from the monorail.

This does depend on how much luggage you have. If you feel you have too much luggage, then you can just go to street level at Westlake and try to get a cab to the hotel.

I used to live in the Seattle area, and was just there on vacation (non-cruise) back in June.

A cab from the airport should cost somewhere around $38-$40 area. Much easier and less hassle than hauling luggage up and down stairs, etc.

No, that is per cab. Maybe a slight surcharge because of extra people. With 4 people, then it should not be more than $10-12 per person, $40-48 total.

This should help. It's a Seattle taxi fare finder. I just was in Seattle in June. For four of us to go from the Celebrity cruise pier to airport was about $40.
