Did you all see the latest news article about the 15 yr. old girl from Ireland that was cruising on the Costa Magica and turned up missing yesterday? Apparently, they are still searching for her in the waters off Mexico. Boy, this seems like it is becoming a problem - something I NEVER even thought about in the past.

Interresting to hear this... When I was on the Mediterranea, I spoke with waiter who was on the Magica when it happened. What he told me is that some older people were giving her alchool and she got quite rowdy. She started threatening she would jump out and no one beleived her due to her state of mind.
She jumped out, hit her head on a lifeboat. In the morning, they found her blood on the boat but it was already too late.
He told me that it is very easy for kids to get access to alchool onboard. They just become friends with someone older that gets them drinks on a stolen SeaPass... I guess it's a problem that is not just on Costa's ships but all of them. The SeaPasses should have pictures of all passengers and their age. This would avoid a lot problems.

This is a site that lists all events at sea. Small ones like illnesses and big ones like people going overboard.

What I heard about the 15 yr old is that it was 3am and she had been drinking with many other teenagers. She was on her private balcony throwing up and went over. Her 12 year old sister went running screaming down the hall. A retired police officer contacted emergency and they stopped the ship 2 hours later. Mexcian coast guard was called to help. Parents were not located for 4 hours. I just got off the Costa Magica (same itinery as this one) and they were very strict with under-age. They were carding and had signs all over the ship saying 21 to be served. Most cruises just look the other way when teenagers drink- Costa was not having it again.
