Disney has named the new ships the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy.

Here is a link to the news report.

With Carnival naming their new ships the Carnival Dream and Carnival Magic, this could get confusing unless the brand is noted about the ship name.

Let's see, we now have;

Disney Magic and Carnival Magic.

Carnival Dream and Disney Dream.

Carnival Fantasy and Disney Fantasy.

I won't go into how many cruise lines have a ship named Legend. Why can't they come up with original names?

What's next, the Carnival Wonder?

I agree there are too many ship names that sound alike. A few years ago, someone had a question about simply, "The Majesty." It wasn't posted in an area specific to any cruise line. So, I answered the question in detail, based upon my beloved Norwegian Majesty. I came to find out a couple of days later that the questions were actually about Majesty of the Seas. http://bestsmileys.com/blushing/5.gif

Regardless of the name, thank you for the info, Dwayne.

So why doesn't Disney name them for their characters? Like Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, and leave the names already taken alone.

In the Navy, whenever the Captain of a vessel comes or goes, the quarterdeck watch chimes the bells and announces over the loudspeakers "(Name of vessel) arriving (or departing)". So for example when the Captain of the USS Nimitz was boarding the ship we'd hear "Ding ding. Ding ding. Nimitz arriving".

That would be fun if Disney named a ship Goofy and they started using Navy protocols. "Goofy arriving". http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo.../icon_razz.gif

WOW, I would cruise on a ship called GOOFY, it has to be a fun one!

There have been lots of "bad" names for U.S. Naval vessels. For instance the USS Pyro was an ammunition ship. Can you imagine being the commanding officer there? "Pyro, arriving".
