I am about to book a transatlantic repositioning cruise on Oceania going from Miami to Marseille. Is there a preferred side of the ship for cabin location on such a cruise? Any suggestions appreciated.

We did a crossing (Holland America repo) FLL to Lisbon and were on the Port side of the ship (we requested it) which was nice to see the sunset from our veranda most days. Perfect venue for cocktails before dressing for dinner.

On another cruise (Crystal Symphony) from Southhampton to Athens, we were on the Port side and had great views of Gibralter as we sailed thru the straits. Our ship's position in Palma de Mallorca relative to our veranda also gave us some great views (as well as beautiful sunsets - see above). Finally, on the evening we stopped at Stromboli (that "old faithful" of volcanoes) we were able to sit on our veranda and enjoy the spectacle!

By the way, a little trivia - the word "POSH" comes from the acronym "Port Outbound, Starboard Home" - passengers leaving the British Isles always asked for "POSH" accomodations - Port side on departure and Starboard side on the return so that they would have a view of England until it passed below the horizon and the first view of England as they came back home.
