Can anyone please tell me the dress code for the MSC Opera. We are going transatlantic 16.12.06 to 2.1.07 and i know there will be about 4 formal nights. What I would like to know is do the majority of men were tux or just suits and what is the dress for nights other than formal. Is jacket compulsory every night for the men. Many thanks

Hey,

friends are just back from MSC-cruise.

25% of the real gentlemen weared tuxedos on the Gala-nights.

But they reported of few men in shorts and the Maitre did not block them to enter the restaurant. But they did it only the first night and the second time they adopt their clothes to the others.

MSC says: it's only a recommendation but no duty like CUNARD.

We will have our tuxedos with us...

Enjoy!

Regards,
HeinBloed

Many thanks HeinBloed. I have a 15 year old son going with us and just about persuaded him that he needs to wear his tux for the gala nights (especially as it will be xmas and new year). Do you know if the gents have to wear a jacket on other nights or would just a nice casual shirt and trousers do. My son is devastated that he can't wear his jeans. Thanks for your help

Hey linnmoy:

I have spoken with a MSC-sales manager who just returned from MSC MUSICA. In preperation for my next voyage with MSC I asked him if a tuxedo will be necessary and he hold me I can save the effort to have a tuxedo with me.

You can write a PM to Garfield. He just returned from a MSC-cruise. He told me that even 25% still have a tuxedo at the Gala-Nights and the guests with too casual clothes felt unconfortable and returned the second Gala-Nights with dark suits.

He was on an 11-night-cruise:

3 Gala
2 formal (dark suit with tie)
6 casual

As told MSC is only recommending and will not insist you to appear in Gala-dress-code even in a Gala night. But if you or your son will feel unconfortable... He can have instead Pizza-dinner every night casually.

X-mas and New Year is a very special occassion. To be honest: as a compromise I would say: with a suit or tuxedo to go to a common dinner and after 10 pm release him to the disco in jeans.

The best is to send Garfield a PM and ask all your specific questions. I have no kids with such problems but him...

Have a nice trip!

Regards,
HeinBloed

Hello Twire79:

maybe this is helpful:

Quote:
For evenings, resort casual is also appropriate (no jeans, T-shirts, shorts, or bare feet please after 6:00 PM on the ship). Cocktail dresses for women and suits or jacket and ties for men are appropriate for formal evenings (1 formal on 4 to 6-night cruises; 2 formals on 7 to 10-night cruises; 3 formals on 11 to 14-night cruises and 4 on 15-night or longer cruises).
Source: MSC Website

Following information is taken out of MSC daily programme. The original programme is kept in German so let me try to translate:

Gala: Gents - Smoking or Evening suit and tie
Ladies - Partydress or Cocktaildress, formal

Formal: Gents - Jacket and pants (but no jeans)
Ladies - informal Dress, Pants or sportive clothes

Casual: Gents - sportive shirt, long pants or jeans
Ladies: dress, Pants or sportive clothes

Shorts are only allowed in the self-service restaurant.

No undershirts, bathsuits, bathropes and barefeet are allowed at dinner time.

Maybe it's helpful for you.

But on European ships this three types is quite normal.

Regards,
HeinBloed
