Has anyone sailed on Costa Fortuna recently? If so what were the pros and cons?

Agent 007 I sailed on the Fortuna in Feb. 2008 and we loved it. There were 60 of us in the group and the overall feeling was it was a good cruise. There were many more Europeans than Americans so we had some challenges. We quickly discovered a smile was the best way to acknowlege those who didn't speak English. The ship is beautiful and we felt it was fairly easy to navigate around on. I myself have cruised at least 15 times and felt the staff and food on this ship ranked amoung the best I'd ever had. The only problem we encountered was at the customer service desk...not the best for comunications with us. The food was definatley the best we'd ever had. Service in the dinning room was exceptional. Entertainment was also very good every night. If you like to dance this is the ship for you. Every night in many of the various lounges there were bands, trios, and many, many folks enjoying them. The cabin was excellet in size and layout. We were in a balcony and can't say anything bad about it. My only real complaint was our times in port. San Juan was a late afternoon arrival making siteseeing rough. Since I had been there several times before it was not a problem for me, we walked around until dark then went to the casino across from the dock. The stop in La Ramano could have been skipped as far as I'm concerned it was an evening stop with only one excursion offered to Kandalah night under the stars show. We did go and it was a nice show but it was all in Spanish so we had no idea what the actors/singers were saying. Costumes were beautiful along with the sets so we did enjoy it even if we didn't speak spanis. If you sail on the Fortuna to the Caribbean I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Cruise Gal,
Thank you for putting my mind at ease about Costa Fortuna. I read some of the bad reviews and it made me think twice about the Fortuna. I know you make the trip what you want it to be and if someone has one bad experince, they say the whole cruise was bad. Sounds like me and my group will be just fine on Fortuna. Can I ask you a few questions:
Did they do horse races?
Have tea time?
Do they have an adult only pool?
Do they do the towel animals on the beds at night?
Do they still do the toga night? Heard about that, but not sure if they still do it.
Also do they do around the world night? It's where you go into the lounges and they have special drinks and decorations for that country. They stamp a passport the ship gives you.
Thanks for taking the time to read and respond to my e-mail.
Have a great day, Kathy

Hi Agent 007, we haven't sailed on the Fortuna but have sailed on the Magica and the Mediterranea. We really enjoy Costa. The cabins are large, well layed out, and the ships are very clean. They do have horse races. I didn't see tea, but that doesn't mean they didn't have it, I just didn't look for it. They still have toga nights and it's great fun. They did do the around the world night on both of our cruises. It was great fun, and good food. They did not do the towel animals on either of our recent cruises. They did have an adult only pool, but they didn't enforce the rules as well as they should have. Costa is big on family. Be sure and try some gelato, it's yummy! Didn't mean to jump in, but did want to welcome you aboard! Also, to let you know that we were very satisfied with Costa.

As Penny said yes they have the horse races and the adult pool. I'm with her on the tea..didn't see it but was not looking for it. We had towel animals every night and they were so cute! What ever you do participate in the toga night it was a roit. Of course our group really got into it so that helped. Be sure to go to the main lounge for the Toga night show we loved it and laughed ourselves silly. They did not have the world night as I recall, put that would have been nice. We were onboard Valentines Day and they really went all out with decorations. One thing I didn't write about before was smoking onboard. Since 85% of the passengers were from Europe, and they are a lot of them that are heavy smokers, this was a problem for some in our group. Some passengers didn't pay any attention to the non-smoking areas. It didn't bother me I just moved away but some in our group were unhappy with this. Like you said a cruise is what you make of it. Go and enjoy! Let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Sue

Travel Gal and Penny 3333,
Thanks for welcoming me aboard! Your info is very helpful. Sounds like you have been on a few cruises and know quite a bit. I have been on RC Majesty of the Sea(we were the last cruise before she went into dry dock to be refubished). We were on RC Jewel of the Sea and Costa Atlantica. Enjoyed all of them!!! Looking forward to adding Costa Fortuna to my list. If Fortuna is anything like Atlantica we'll have a good time and enjoy a beautiful ship.
Thanks again for the info and happy cruising!
Agent 007
