Is Cunard opening the barn doors?
Paul Motter reports from Italy that Cunard is considering full a la carte pricing for The Verandah restaurant, which will be a high-end French dining room on the new Queen Elizabeth. They would charge $6 to $7 for appetizers, $16 to $18 for entrees, and another $6 to $7 for dessert. No tipping is expected. Is this a good idea, or should they stick with the now-standard practice of having one standard price per guest for the whole meal? Is someone creating a scene by arguing over their bill in the offing? "You charged me for the lamb but I had the fish!" |
Are they going to open it to everyone on board, or just those in the Grills? Although I would love to experience one of the queens, I am not sure I like their dining system. I sure hope the other lines do not follow suit. It doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

We encountered a restaurant on Royal Caribbean's Monarch of the Seas that had a la carte pricing. It was an Asian restaurant whose name escapes me.

It's open to all passengers.

I had forgotten about that. It is the Jade sushi bar in the forward section of the Windjammer.
