Dear Sir/ Madam,

We are Lúcia de Jesus Garção Reia and José Daniel Arruda Casado, both students of the 4th year of the course of Tourism and Thermalism of Portalegre Superior School of Education (ESEP), in Portugal.

For us to finish this school year we have to complete a Tourism Project, that should be presented at the end of the school year of 2005/2006 (around May or June).

The project that we are developing, is related with to themed maritime cruises in Portuguese territory (mainland and islands), based on the Portuguese Discoveries, also including routes in the African West Cost and South America.

We already have planned 15 different itineraries, between 2 and 41 nights, with prices between 250 and 7000 euros, with almost all excursions decided, that includes areas like the Portuguese coast, the Azores, Madeira, Green Cape, Canaries, Sao Tome and Prince Islands, and also some countries in the African and South American Coast that are related to the Portuguese Maritime Discoveries.
All of these makes 279 days in activity plus around 20 days to prepare the long itineraries (13/19/ and 41 nights). There will be around two months in lay up (November and December).

And for that, we are researching information about small cruise ships that carry around 500 passengers and 200 crew members, and information about crew members and their duties.

Theoretically we think that all the initial investment will be around 30 million euros (the theoretical ship purchase and remodelling, office purchase, marketing, search for crew members and land personal, publicity and other initial costs).

We are looking for information about a ship called “The Jasmine”, that is under was chartered by Mano Cruises from Israel.

Can you tell us, if it’s possible:

1? What is, in meters, the ships total width, height and length?

2 ? What is, in meters, the width, height and length of each deck (especially deck 7, 8 and 9)? What is the size of the deck above the ships command bridge?
Can you tell the distance between the ship’s chimney and bow. And between the chimney and the ship’s stern? Also can you tell what is the chimney height?

3 ? What is, in meters, the width of the promenade where the life boats are placed? And can you also tell what is, in meters, the inside corridors width?

4. ? How many service and passenger lifts that the ship as and which decks they exist? How many inside and outside staircases in the ship?

5. ? Can you also tell us more things about the public areas and cabins (their size in square meters and other things?)

We planned some new public areas for the ships that include a piano bar, a mini sports centre, library, internet room, auditorium/cinema/lecture hall with 120 places and stage, a gym, a spa and inside pool, suites and some cabins with balconies, a new reception area and changing position of the lifeboats. We also planned a relocation of the clinic, beauty salon, duty free shops, children playroom, and other things like decoration related to the cruise theme.

6 ? Do you think that it's possible to build these areas in the ship? Most of them in the deck 9 (We already have some drawings with these areas).

7 ? Do you imagine how many will cost to build these kind of areas?

8 ? Can you provide us with some images of the ship? Ship maps? Technical maps? Something that can show all the public, private and service areas (galley, crew quarters, usw…) in the ship and all the technical specifications, something that is possible to read from?

9 ? can you tell something more about the crew quarters (where are the cabins for the officials and the cabins for the rest of the crew, where do they eat, …).

10 ? Can you also tell me how many crew members the “The Jasmine” needs for each department and for category/job/function?

11 ? Can you tell something about the ships refrigerated and dry storage facilities capacity and autonomy (for how long the food can last when the sips has around 600 people on it)? And for how many days or nautical miles can the ship navigate without refilling with fuel?

12 ? Can you tell us something about the life boats specifications (capacity, size)? Can you also tell us if there are some life boats that can be used as tender boats to disembark in small ports?

13 ? How many exits or entrances does the ships have to allow people to embark or disembark?

A? Does the ship have facilities adapted for disabled people and for wheelchair users? Is the ship prepared to receive people in wheelchairs? If the ship have those facilities, how many cabins are prepared for disabled people and which is the doors width (elevator, cabins, corridors and bathroom).

B ? Can you provide us with information about the cabins category, description and number of staterooms per deck?
Can you tell something about the kind and size of the beds (if they are lower beds, upper beds, single beds, double beds, twin beds, sleeping berth, how many are pulldown bed), the view (interior, exterior, large windows, hatchway windows, obstructed view), existence or not of cabins with balcony, how many cabins have showers and how many have tubs. Can you tell, in meters, the height, width and length of the cabins in each category?
Can you tell us how many cabins have 2, 3 or 4 berth/beds and where they are located in the ship?

C ? Does the back entrance of the ship can be open when the ship is at sea? This is an idea inspired in a ship called “Black Prince” from the “Fred Olsen Cruise Line” that as an outdoor leisure marine with speed boating, water skiing, inflatables and other water sports. Do you think that it’s possible to use the roll-on/roll-off ramp as a platform where passengers can practice some water sports?

D ? In the e-mail that we have sent yesterday we asked if you could tell us something about the public areas size in square meters. Can you tell us something about their length, width and height in meters?

E ? Do you think that a buffet restaurant with around 100 seats can be installed in the ship?
F ? Can you provide us the measures (length and width) of the areas represented by the black arrows?
Deck 9

We would like to thank you for your time and assistance. And we would appreciate a quick answer to our questions. This is very important to us.

Yours faithfully,
