Smoking on European river cruises?

I am considering booking a river cruise directly through Lueftner cruises (Amadeus Princess, MS Amadeus, MS Amadeus Rhapsody, etc.)
I know that Intrav sells some of these cruises and that they are essentially non-smoking when they are from Intrav. But when booked directly through Lueftner, they include many international passengers and they say smoking is allowed in a small section of the bar. Has anyone been on a Europe rive cruise with this policy? Just how much smoking did you actually encounter, and was it a problem? Thanks a lot. I need to decide if this is going to be ok for me. My parents have done a cruise on the river Rhein. And my father smokes cigarettes. He told me, it was like on normal cruiseships, forbidden in some areas, allowed in other areas of the ship.
