Disney Magic Fire ruined cruise

I remember on my first cruise, we had to make ourselves known to a Customs Official onboard the ship (Majesty of the Seas) back in 2007. I think we just had to show our passports, and our SeaPass card. This was I think the night before arriving (or the morning of) arriving in Key West, Florida. Prior to this, we had been in Coco Cay, Bahamas, and before that, Nassau.

I'd have to look closely at the Jones Act (I think that's what it's called), but my mom thought we couldn't stop at a US port if we had departed from a US port (on this particular cruise, we departed from Miami).

We do not like our passports taken away from us. I see no reason for any of this as we fill out all the forms even before we board the ship. Ths was the first time this has happen and we have cruise 5 times before. Why would only non US citizens have there passports taken? This is the only ID my wife has as she does not drive.

Most of the time you only need your Sign & sail card to re-board the ship

If you require other photo I.D. they will usually mention this before leaving the ship
We also make photo copies of our passports to carry onshore
I am sure if she has the new health card it should work fine for i.D. out of the country
