We are considering booking a cruise on the QM2 but are concerned about their smoking policy. It sounds like smoking is permitted inside the ship in public areas. Can anyone comment on how bad the smoke factor is?

I'm sorry to say, I haven't been on QE2 yet, but most ships allow smoking only in the casino and certain sections of some lounges; and maybe a cigar bar. Smoking is not permitted in the dining rooms, showrooms or interior walkways. I have never been bothered by smoke anywhere but on my own balcony when I have a neighbor who smokes.

Hi MSS, welcome to Cruise-Chat. Here is a link to Cunard's smoking policy. Hope you have a marvelous cruise!

Thank you, Penny; that's actually a lot more smoking areas than Princess or Holland America--I'm quite surprised. Maybe it is because Cunard has a more international clientele. In any event, it is one more reason to scratch Cunard off my "must try" list.

I doubt it will stay that way, long. It's hard to find smoking areas anymore. Since they're banning smoking everywhere in the world, I'm sure Cunard will be forced to eliminate areas on their ships.

Hi MSS, and welcome to cruise-chat. We were on QE2 a few years ago... they had smoking sections in the restaurants (QM2 does not), and we didn't notice it. I'm a contact lens wearer, so I'm usually sensitive to smoke. They did a fine job of keeping the smokers and non-smokers separated while accommodating both. QM2 seems to have a more stringent no-smoking policy.

Thank you all for your responses. We were very disapointed when we read the smoking policy and were considering skipping the Cunard line. I'm glad to hear that the ships manage to keep their non-smoking guests protected. We've decided to risk it and take a cruise on QM2 in November.

I cruised QM2 for 10 days in December 2007 and honestly, I don't recall a lot of smoking going on. It was a wonderful cruise, particularly if you like dressing up at night.

Hi, we made a cruise at QM2 in December 2008 , my wife and I are absolutly non smoking persons, so for us it was very important not to be disturbed from smoking people, we can tell you that everybody takes care about the new smoking policy and we were not disturbed from smoke any time. You did not smell a little - except near the cigar bar.
Hope to inform you well.
