MS Europa, Sails from Hamburg to Montreal September 14 through October 3 on Gala Bilingual Fifth Birthday Cruise
Hamburg, GERMANY, July 2004 – The MS Europa, the only ship in the world to have been honored with the “5-Stars-Plus” designation by the Berlitz Publishing’s Ocean Cruising & Cruise Ships 2004 for four consecutive years, and the flagship of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ fleet, will celebrate its fifth birthday with a gala cruise from Hamburg to Montreal September 14 to October 3, 2004. The gala cruise is the unveiling of Europa after its trip to the shipyard for some refurbishing including a new bar, a larger fitness area and a larger children's playroom.
For this special cruise from Hamburg to Montreal – with commentary in both English and German on a fully bilingual cruise – guests will be treated to a Gourmet Festival with special guest chef Jean-Claude Bourgueil and sommelier Rene Lambert. While many special events take place – including a great fireworks display – this ship will pass through the fascinating ice formations of Greenland. A special highlight on the trip will be the opening of the floating annex of the “Sansibar,” the famous lodge in the dunes of the island of Sylt.
The 19-day cruise is ideal for cruisers looking for a Northern transatlantic crossing that touches on rare and beautiful destinations along the way. Those who appreciate very fine dining on a ship consistently called the most beautiful and elegant in the world will consider this an event-of-a-lifetime. If you’ve been waiting for the cruise of a lifetime, come to the party! Prices start from $8,294 per person.
On September 15, 1999, the prize of the Hapag-Lloyd fleet, known for its elegance and phenomenal service, was baptized “Europa” in a ceremony at Ueberseebruecke in Hamburg. Five years later, this cruise ship, built for a maximum of 408 passengers, has won the hearts of many travelers. Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has worked very hard to create out of the ordinary itineraries, as well as to always give its passengers a memorable experience of food, wine, art, enrichment lectures, and lots of music on MS Europa.
Greenland, the largest island in the world, awaits Europa’s birthday revelers with endless expanses of sparkling ice – as well as countless possibilities to get up close and personal with reindeer, arctic foxes, polar bears, and other creatures. Europa’s staff will, as always, help passengers become “immersed” in the culture of a destination; in this case, cruisers will meet the warm and welcoming Inuit, inhabitants of Greenland.
What a perfect trip for fall! If you’re ready to cap off your summer with an outstanding September experience, and wish to know about the captivating destination “Arctic,” consult one of the travel agents listed below.

I know what you mean aboout the dollar. On our last trip we visited, Italy, Croatia, Greece, France and Spain. It was almost twice as expensive as a year ago.
from what I've heard, the level of serice provided by the mostly German and Austrian crew is second to none. Unlike its predecessor the new "Europa" attracts a very "high society" with famous celebrities from the German-speaking countries onboard both as passengers and invited guests on virtually every sailing.
Hapag-Lloyd is also famous for organizing unique shoreside events like e.g. a Mallorca rallye with veteran cars.
