Don't Just Go There - Explore with an Explorer
Silversea's guest lecturer program is being expanded
later this year, and the luxury line is giving it a
unique twist. On some of the itineraries to the world's
more unusual destinations, the guest lecturer won't be
just a lecturer, he (or she) will be the Resident
Explorer.
These acclaimed adventurers will not just host
presentations onboard, but they will also accompany
passengers on selected shore excursions.
"Our guests are typically active and sophisticated
world travelers with a passion for new learning
experiences", said Barbara Muckermann, Silversea's
SVP of marketing. "With our innovative 'Spirit of
Exploration' enrichment series, guests will have a chance
to travel and interact with leading explorers and learn
first hand about their exciting feats in earth, sea and
space exploration. It's a program designed to give our
travel-savvy guests a renewed sense of discovery and
adventure that will enhance their enjoyment of the cruise
and ports of call."
The initial lineup of Resident Explorers includes: Dr.
Joe MacInnis, an undersea explorer and marine
conservationist who led the first team of scientists to
dive under the North Pole and was among the first to dive
to the Titanic (Silver Cloud, May 19). Dr. Don Walsh who
is an oceanographer and world explorer and has completed
more than 55 expeditions to the polar regions (both north
and south) and holds the world's depth record, diving
nearly seven miles below the surface of the ocean (Silver
Cloud, November 27 & December 5). Brian Jones who counts
among his aviation feats being the first to
circumnavigate the earth in a hot air balloon (Silver
Wind, appropriately, November 29). Belinda Sawyer who is
a ship's master, engineer and dive master, and the senior
expedition leader and operations manager for Deep Ocean
Expeditions which operates submarine expeditions to
multiple ocean sites (Silver Shadow, December 22).
