Majestic America Line Announces Farewell Celebration Throughout 2008 for the Legendary Delta Queen

Seattle, August 1, 2007 – Majestic America Line, one of the world’s premier river cruise lines and the largest river and coastal cruising company in America, announced today that despite tremendous efforts by the company, many esteemed partners and thousands of previous guests, the U.S. Congress has decided that the Delta Queen should not continue operating on America’s rivers beyond 2008. I think it's a shame that the delta queen is to be retired....there are obviously many people who still wish to cruise with her ....I wonder what reasons those who voted to stop this historical ship sailing gave, especially as from what I read ,everyone sailing with her had to sign something to say they understood that she did not meet all the legal requirements,and they accepted this.

It appears this is primarily the result of a labor union issue and the labor unions influence over the U.S. Congress. Read more insight here.

News on the DELTA QUEEN:

On Tuesday, Oct 16th, Rep. Steve Chabot has introduced a stand alone bill to save the Delta Queen. The bill is co-sponsored by 11 other Representatives. For further information check

where you can also find the bill number.

What we now need are letters to your local Senators and Representatives to ask them to support the DELTA QUEEN and this bill to grant another exemption. For those living in CA: The DELTA QUEEN and her sister ship DELTA KING were originally built for the Sacramento River and ran between Sacramento and San Francisco as overnight ferry boats. The DELTA KING is now serving as a floating hotel in Sacramento (but not able to move anymore).
