I hear that jerk chicken is something you "must try" while in (is it Jamaica or Grand Cayman?) and I am wanting to do so. Does anyone know a good place to get it in Ocho Rios or on Grand Cayman?

I have a friend who owns two condos in Ocho and spends a great deal of time there. He always recommends the Ocho Rios Jerk Centre as a good place. I think it is behind one of the two big tourist malls (Soni or Taj Mahal - I forget which).

Jerk is not a big thing on Grand Cayman.

I'll be in Ocho Rios in March. I was just going to stay on the ship, but I may try wandering out to check out the chicken.

"Jerked" Chicken is probably more correct. Think of chicken grilled over a fire or coals that has been marinated in a really spicy concoction including scotch bonnet (habanero is a relative) peppers. Look here.

I'll make jerked pork and chicken a couple times a year. I like to do it the hard way with fresh peppers and spices. There are shortcuts with prepared jerk marinades you can buy, but they just aren't the same.

Jerked meats are things that demand plenty of cold beer or iced tea be at the ready. Best eaten pool side on a hot summer day.

Sounds like you really know how to throw a party, Dave.
Next time you decide to do this, let us know. I've always wanted to see Alabama.

Hey Ohio Mom- I saw your Labadee question- we went there in 2000. I believe..Labadee is a beach owned by the cruise ship. The beach area is fenced off from the rest of Haiti (if I remember right) there were a few children on the other side of the fence trying to sell you stuff, or asking for money. But the beach area is beautiful you can see the ship right there so you can get awesome pictures of your kids in the water with the ship in the back. We brought our own snorkel gear...had a balcony/room to dry it out at night. But you can rent everything there. Men come around selling cold drinks. The lunch was awesome.
