If we just want to go to a pretty beach for the day and not buy an excursion thru the cruise line, where do we go? I read Doctors Cave or Sunset Beach... any info/cost?

You should definitely look into an All Inclusive resort. Many will sell a day pass to the resort. Try searching on the internet and you should be able to find one close to the port. I can not personally suggest any since we have not done this in Jamaica (have done it several times in Cozumel). Although I have heard Sunset beach is nice. Maybe someone else that has done this can offer good advice

Hi Lauriesue, welcome to Cruise-Chat! Congratulations on your up-coming cruise! I'm not trying to scare you, but Jamaica is one place you really should not venture out on your own. I agree totally with Jim C, try to find an all-inclusive. Sunset has an all-inclusive package, not sure about half days, but they do have a website. Doctor's Cove has a hotel close to the beach that may offer some type of a day pass. Either way, make sure you stay in a group and be aware of your surroundings. Jamaica is a beautiful island, but very poor.

I agree with the others - don't venture out alone in Montego Bay! I can recommend the Negril Beach-Margaritaville excursion thru Carnival. The drive was nice and scenic and the beach was great. There is a lunch that was also pretty good. We weren't bothered at all by anyone trying to sell us anything while we were there. The place they stop for shopping was nice and no beggars. You don't even have to partonize Margaritaville if you don't want to - just walk thru the restaurant out to the beach and grab a lounge chair. It was very enjoyable day.
