I posted this in an older thread, and it didn't seem to post much closer to the tip of this discussion page, so I'm going to post it again
Is jewelry, esp. diamonds, cheaper in the Caribbean? someone mentioned buying a bunch of jewelry and I wasn just wonderin....especially because we'll be cruising for our 10th anniversary..heheh.
I do believe you can get excellent deals on jewelry in the Caribbean. Some places better than others. Among the top places St. Thomas, St. Marteen, Aruba to mention afew.
I have had good luck at Diamonds International. Have read where others have not.
Good Luck
There is a great link on the cruise-links.com site that provides a buying guide and detailed information about buying Jewelry in the Caribbean. It is under the Ports of Call links: http://www.cruise-links.com/
Fabulous site, Nancy, thanks. I do already know the prices of some jewelry I'm interested in here, is there any major difference in price, or is it just tax free? does that just mean sales tax, or are there other gold, gemstone taxes that I'm not aware I've paid?
My wife bought a few pieces on several of our cruises which appraised for twice to as much as ten times what we paid in the islands. DI is where we have had the best luck
DI is the best place for jewelry,as it is guaranteed by the cruise lines.DH bought me a diamond sapphire bracelet total weight of 3.25 in jewels in Costa Maya for $190. My jeweler here in Mich. appraised for $425. So you can expect to save about 50%-75% off U.S. retail with no sales tax. Just remember to know what your looking at. Good luck

Wow! Where is DI...is that the store? What island is it on. You say it's recommended by the cruiseline, do they recommend other business like that? Interesting.
