Costa Maya...any tips on what to do

Our ship itinerary has been changed to Costa Maya instead of Cozumel. Does anyone have suggestions on things to do there. From what I've read, it seems somewhat primative. Are there many excursions available to choose from other than Carnival's (we were hoping to book things other than what the ship offers to avoid huge crowds and high prices).

Why not write a review when you get back? I suspect that Costa Maya will benefit from Cozumel's plight.
