Can anyone give information while in port at St. Maarten, is there an easy way to get to the famed Orient Beach for a few hours? And if so how much do you think it would be to get there and back to the ship?

I was there in February on the Dutch side. I asked a fellow passenger who had taken a cab to Orient and she said she paid $18 each way. Another lady told me she paid $25. I* am sure you would be able to neogiate a price with a driver. If you are docking in the Dutch side the cabs will be right at the dock.

We've been to St. Maartin 3 times. Twice we rented cars and toured the island (third time only went into Phillipsburg). The island is quite small with many beautiful beaches. The car rental agency is at the end of the pier. Last time we went around clockwise with our first beach stop at Simpson Bay where the airport is. We continued to Marigot (the French capital) for a nice lunch, then on to Orient Beach for some swim time. There are also many other nice little coves you can stop at. If you go to Orient Beach find the Bikini Beach Bar (here is their website: www.bikinibeach.net). In fact my goal is to retire, buy the Bikini Beach Bar and spend my life serving rum drinks to tourists! It is a beautiful beach and the bar serves food and drinks. There are also many other places to go. But depending on your desires, cars are not too expensive and touring the island is fun. And as I said you also will have time for the beach.
Enjoy. I love St. Maartin.

That's a nice retirement dream, papaflamingo. Mine is to retire and pour wine, for pay, at a winery in Oregon (Pinot Noir country). Watch out for those rowdy, ugly american, cruise tourists, though.

As you can see from this taxi rate guide, it can be as cheap as $5 pp to go to and from Orient Beach, depending on how many people are in the cab with you. There are so many people wanting to go there, that if you just wait a little while at the taxi stand, they will get a whole taxi full and your cost will be cheap!
