Anybody have info on Sandals Resort for a day trip in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. For 1st stop we just want to lay around on a beach with as little a hassale as possible from vendors, be able to have a few drinks, good lunch.
Take the cruise ship excursion/do it on our own? Are there other beaches/resorts, that are better, that would be suitable for on our own? This will be the day after Christmas.

Hello froze-to-death!
I've done a couple of resorts for a day. Sandals and Couples. It's a great way to spend the day. You will have all the privileges that the customers have. Drinks, food, beach; and some water sporting equipment. The cost is around $90 per person. I would go on line to check which resort you prefer, and deal directly with that resort. I think they will tell you that you just take a cab to their resort and pay when you arrive. Wow! sitting under a palm at Christmas...I wonder what that would be like.

Princess offers Sandals for $119/person.
What are your thought regarding do it yourself or the cruise ship excursion? Will we get there sooner on our own? Do we tender off the boat in Ocho Rios(that would be a factor I think as ship excursions go first, as I understand)?

What does Couples offer that would entice us to select them?

While we are talking about tendering? Do we tender in any of these ports:

-Puerto Caldera, Costa Rica?
-Puerto Quettzal, Guatemala?
-Acapulco, Mexico?

I would look into Sandals Grande Ocho Rios Resort. Check out the cost per person and ask what the taxi fare is round trip. I think it's only a 10 minute taxi ride. If you save enough money going on you own instead of doing the ship excursion, you would have to decide if it's worth it. I always like going on our own, because I don't like to be herded. Couples is pretty much the same...just another resort with free drinks and food. You'll probably be back to Ocho Rios again, so you can visit the other resort you didn't do on this cruise.
