I contacted 2 guides previously recommended by cruisers on this site. The guides respond but when I try to modify their recommendation, I never hear from them again. Is it safe to pick up a taxi/guide near the pier, settle on a price for a 5 hour tour with payment in american $$ given at the end of the trip? We're leaving tomorrow! If this is not a good plan, we'll do Doctor's Beach and Margaretaville or Sunset Beach, no problem.

Attend the port talk on the ship and they will tell you which taxis are safe to use. Sometimes the safe taxis are regulated and they have a different colored license plate. They are allowed to wait in a designated area where you get off the ship.
