Hey all- just returned from our cruise. Thought I would jump on and update all on the status of the piers in Cozumel. The Punta Longasta (spelling?) pier looks fully servicable. This is were we (The NCL Dream) docked. It looked fully rebuilt (there were some details to finished but it was open to cruises.) and looked like it could dock two ships. The RCL Freedom was docked at (I assume) the international pier, so it can handle at least one ship. So, maybe no more tendering in Cozumel??!!! That would be great.

I have pictures of both, but don't know how to include them.

Hi Jim,

Great news about the piers. How was the cruise?

I haven't found a way for this forum software to include photos - you have to load them at another website and link it to here.

Had a great cruise Dave.. I posted a review on the NCL forum, so I won't go into detail here. I was just happy to have docked. The dive master said that they just started letting ships dock again the week before and that it had rained for about 10 straight days before we arrived (it was beautiful weather) so we got double lucky I guess.

I may post my pictures on SonnyV's website our I may just post them on my own and link them in so all can see. But that might take me a couple of days since I don't have one set up.

Glad to hear you got to dock..i'd bet it will be next year before the international pier is fully opened. It is real good news the other dock is working.
I heard Cancun's beaches are bigger than before the hurricane, cant wait to see...I got an all-inclusive there in Dec. I hope they fix playa del carmen's next.
Delta has a new flight (non stop from atlanta) to meridia which is down there too.
going to check out how you liked ncl dream.
Later, Dave

Hi Jim,

We got to dock in Cozumel to at the Punta Longosta pier. We were there this past Friday. We had great weather also. Be glad you got back in on Saturday because Sat night, we had a rocky ride due to the storms out in the Gulf close to Galveston. I was fine, but lots of people weren't feeling so good.

This is how the piers currently stand:

Punta Langosta - fully functional, can dock 2 ships (there's a story about the Mexican President re-opening it on this Cozumel travel site)

SSA International Pier - able to dock 1 ship, hoping to dock 2 ships again later this year. Also open for tenders.

Puerta Maya Pier - not able to dock, reconstruction underway, varying estimates for when it'll re-open between Summer 2007 and 2008. I think it can still accept tenders at the moment though.

So, yes, good news, a smaller proportion of passengers will need to tender overall now..

Hi Jim,
Did you get the penthouse suite? Did anyone show up on your cruise? Glad to see you're back safe and sound, did you book another one Getting really excited now, so close, yet so far away

Jim C. 10-17-2006 11:22 AM

Nope.. didn't get the penthouse suite. They claimed the ship was full. I did ask though... all the suites were booked.

My next one is in June on the Mariner of the seas. But if we run across a good deal, we may throw in another in between. But with the kiddos in school, that is not likely. You have 3 days... I was in "vacation" mode for almost the entire week before our cruise. Have fun!!

I finally got the pictures posted. If you want to see the condition of the piers in Cozumel go hereand look in the NCL Dream cruise gallery. You may have to hunt around a bit because I have not organized them yet.
