Cozumel shore excursions

Can anyone tell about shore excursions in Cozumel? Are there any you can do on your own? Is Chankanaab Park a good place to go?

hi tesi... I believe this was a similar post I responded to on another site. YES YES YES. Chankanaab Park is Pristine. It's a straight shot from the pier, approximately 10 minutes. The beach is beautiful. Bring your ship's blue towels with you if you go. The beach will have one-piece plastic molded lounge chairs for your use. The water is crystal clear, excellent snorkeling, reefs, tropical fish. Food and beverage service, as well as, wait staff on the beach. Souveniors can be purchased at the park also. Walk around the park on the paths and you will see wildlife (iquanas) and lush plantscape. You can cab it there or rent a vehicle and go it by yourself. It's very easy to get to. I would highly recommend the park. Have fun.

Hi tesi. Cozumel is probably one of the better places to do your own thing. Lots to do there. I agree completely with Andrealovescruising's recap of Chankanaab Park.

How much time should one allow at Chankanaab Park in order have experiened it and to have some time left over to do a little shopping and sightseeing in downtown Cozumel?

Peter, I am not 100% sure on what time the park opens for business. I believe there is a website set up where you can check or the cruise line might have that information available to you. We snorkeled at the park and still had plenty of time to head downtown and shop for a few hours. I would say to allow a minimum of 2-4 hours at the park. It entirely depends on how much beach and snorkel time you wish to do versus shopping time.

Peter, try www.cozumelparks.com for information. There is even a telephone number you can call for information. Keep in mind... if there are high winds, they close the park. That happened to us one year. There are alternative beaches if that does happen. Good luck.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but why would they close a beach park for high winds? Is there more than just beach and dolphins?

Erika, there is no such thing as a stupid question. High winds = rough waves. That is what we were told at the Chankanaab Park Information Desk. Too much of a liability for the Park.
